Life is Good. But it can be even better. Have you ever actually taken the time to write down the things that you really want to do before you “kick the bucket”? Before watching the buddy-flick starring Jack Nickolson and Morgan Freeman, I have to admit that I had not put a lot of thought in to it. Following the movie, however, I said to myself, “self, what’s on your list?” So I made some mental notes, and now I’m ready to share with you, dear readers, what I want to do before I kick-it.
1.Travel to every continent. (I have 3 left)
2. Meditate on a regular basis.
3. Climb Kilimanjaro.
4. Be really fluent in a foreign language.
5. Live in another country-at least for a year.
6. Write/Publish a book.
7. Let go of the past.
8. Hang glide
So, as Morgan told Jack at the end of the movie, “find the joy in your life”. Then share with us what’s on YOUR bucket list.
Nice list.
Mine is:
* Meet tribal people
* Learn how to sail
* Learn how to scuba dive
* See big ape in the wild
* Visit Hua Shan, China
* Trace Tour de France
* Live a good life and be happy
* Try new things
* Inspire / enable people dream
* etc.
ooohhhh—i totally forgot learn to sail! good one, thanks!
Wow you are the best looking and acting 50 year old, I know. The guy you travel with is not so bad either… kinda like a raiders of the lost arc guy, or something very manly with a better smile. Have to think about my bucket list. What a great topic. Your 50s are going to be hard to beat your 40s or 30s. Great life! You should write a book. Miss you. Come visit us on the lake soon.
I did the same thing when I saw the movie. Now don’t remember what I did with the list! Old age is lovely, you’ll enjoy it! 🙂 I’ll work on another one, but climb to the 2nd cliff one more time is on it. I’ll let you know.
Love you both! Sally
I made my list in college back in the eighties and I still have the original list. It’s written on a long sheet of yellow legal paper and getting kind of rumpled. I mark things as done when they’re completed and I still have tons to go. Some remaining and revised things would be:
1) Publish, Publish, Publish!
2) Run with the bulls in Spain for my 50th Birthday
3) Be able to live in Scotland part time in a place big enough to have family and friends come to visit. (it was full time, but revised after moving to Cornwall) I’d settle for one month out of the year now. Cornwall is too lovely to stay gone for long.)
4) Learn to paint well enough to have the objects be identifiable.
5) Lead Spirit healing workshops using photography and writing for people who need a break from their lives.
6) Stand on the great wall in China…explore China and photograph for at least a month.
7) See something I’ve written made into a movie for the big screen.
8) Give to Heifer International on a regular basis and bigger $
9) Leave behind enough money to fund at least one scholarship at UGA and one at VA Tech.
10) Write, write, write…until my stories have all been told.
I’ve got a lot more, but I have to go now…I need to work on my speech for the president. That’s on my list too at number 36) Write a speech for the president or be quoted by the president in a speech. 🙂 Thank goodness there’s one in place that could repeat a phrase and pronounce the words properly.
Denise–am writing the book!
Sally-I’ll climb to the 2nd cliff with you!
Elizabeth-if you lead the spirit (my word for 2009) workshops in scotland, i’ll sign up!
Thanks for the replies–keep ’em coming!
I’ll take you up on that. Let me know when you are going to be in Harlan and I’ll make sure we do that! Love to you both! Sally
Great idea, Jules! Mine are:
1) Go on an African Safari (to view the animals, not hunt)
2) Go to Italy again and this time, rent a villa for all of our families/friends and, while there, take a cooking class in Tuscany
3) Own a farm like my parents, to: have a KICK ASS garden, own horses again and, have enough land to enable us to rescue LOTS of cats/dogs/other 🙂
4) Learn the remainder of my Mother’s awesome recipes and canning techniques
5) Participate in one last theatrical production (before my memory goes) … ha.
6) Re-read all of the classics from my lit classes
7) Adopt a polydactyl cat from Hemingway’s house in Key West
8) Live near the ocean
9) Go back to Bermuda, where Hubby and I got married
10) Visit all of the states in this great country!
11) Write a ghost story
12) Get a 2nd tattoo
13) Meet my hero, Jon Huntsman (of the Huntsman Cancer Center)
14) Take an administrative role in the Animal Legal Defense org
15) Learn to salsa
So many things to do…..shit, I’d better get busy! 🙂
