go fish!

before leaving on our big adventure, we went to ky. to visit granny and g-diddy up in the appalachian mountains. it’s really beautiful up there with mountains and lakes and stuff. many, many years ago, waaaay before we were borned, g-diddy built a little cabin and a lake way up high on top of pine mountain. it’s about 10 degrees cooler up there, and there is lots of cool wildlife, like bears and elk and foxes. oh, and snakes. poisonous ones. in fact, uncle jim shot a copperhead on the dock last week, and granny saw a rattlesnake 2 weeks ago. yikes!

Anyway, on Diddy’s birthday, we went up to the lake to go fishing for our dinner. Oooohhhh, we love fish! Altogether, they caught 4 big large-mouth bass and 4 big bluegills. It was thrilling to watch them pull the fish out of the water, and I almost ate one whole, before Mommy grabbed me and pulled it out of my mouth! If you’re interested in outdoor activities, especially fishing, you might consider following a blog that covers these topics. Many people love reading their blogs for the latest tips, tricks, and stories related to fishing and other similar activities.

In preparation for our trip, which will take us to some great fishing spots across the country and Canada, they figured it might be a good idea to learn how to clean fish. So g-diddy gave them a quick lesson.
any time anybody caught a baby fish, they took it off the hook and put it back in the water. mommy is sooo silly! she would say dumb things like “swim away, little fishy,. i’ll catch you next year and eat you for supper!” isn’t that dumb???
roxie isn’t in any of these pictures because she is a typical gurl, afraid of anything that is slimy with scales that moves! hahahahah! roxie is SUCH a sissy!!!!!

the worst part of cleaning fish is killing them. ooohhhh, i don’t like the idea at all, but g-diddy showed them how to do it quickly and efficiently. you take a real, real sharp knife and slice through their spine. it concerned me that the fish still moved after it’s head was cut off, but g-diddy assured us he was dead and didn’t feel anything. we said a thank you prayer to the fishy for giving it’s life to us for food.

after scaling and fileting the fishies, mommy cooked them up in a big frying pan. yummy! they smelled sooo delicious! and they tasted even better, because we got a little taste of them, too!
we’re getting closer to d-day, so check back in often! arf!

  1. You “pups” make sure Mommy and Diddy get the car serviced before leaving on your great adventure!!!

  2. What a gorgeous place! Cleaning fish…uugghh! I remember my first catch and it about killed me to clean them. My grandmother-in-law shooed me away, she was way to good with that filet knife btw! I gladly let her take over and was oh so ready for dinner that night. I did not know that they like to put the roe in the homemade hushpuppies. I love hush puppies. Let me rephrase that. I lovED hushpuppies. I think the family still talks about my reaction to that little tid-bit of news at the dinner table post hushpuppy bite! : ) Looks like you all had a great adventure…cannot wait to read more. : )

  3. Hi there! My name’s Mayzie and I just found your bloggie. Nice to meet you! It sounds like you’re getting ready to go on a Most Wonderful adventure!

I like your g-diddy’s place. It looks like a lotta fun. I’ve never been fishing but that looked like a lotta fun, too (and I’m a girl!). Yeah, humans are weird. They don’t seem to be very good at the whole hunting thing. (Or in this case – fishing.) I bet one of those little fishes would’ve been a good meal for you!

    Wiggles & Wags,
    mayzie
