Chance here. I’m chillaxin’ on a real bed in a real room with a kitchen and bathroom. Mommy and diddy are happy to have a little break from the heat outside- it’s been pretty hot in a lot of places.I need to back up a little, though, and catch you up to what we’ve been doing.
we met some really cool friends of mommy’s, that she went to high school at Sewanee Academy with. Tracy and Stretch were in Durango, and I got to keep score on their bocce ball game. Tracy has met us before, and for some reason that I will NEVER understand, she likes roxie the best. So roxie hung out at their campsite a lot, but that’s ok, because that gave me more attention from mommy and diddy.
Kizzy likes to bark at kids, and there was a little kid that kept yelling “POP IT’ real loud, like every 2 seconds, and that got on kizzy’s nerves real bad. Mommy said it’s a good thing we were leaving that morning.
We drove up to mesa verde national park near the 4-corners area.
It is an ancient pueblo community that looked real interesting, but dogs aren’t allowed outside of cars, and it was hot, so they did what they called the “Griswald family vacation” tour, where they would drive to a viewpoint, jump out of the car, take a quick picture and drive on to the next viewpoint.
In moab, the temps were in the low 100’s, so we would just take short walks around the campground and wade in the creek to cool off. mommy and diddy took turns staying with us while the other did some exploring (shopping), or while diddy went mountain biking. when they did hike together, they went early in the morning, leaving the a/c on high cool, and always returned before the heat of the day.
Arches and canyonlands national parks were beautiful, and had some excellent hiking trails-like delicate arch trail, that went up a really steep incline and had this amazing arch at the very end. there were lots of people there, despite the temps of mid 90’s.
After moab, we went to bryce canyon, and even tho the campsite was small, the temperature there was in the high 70’s, so much cooler!
While we were in bryce, another one of mommy’s old Sewanee friends, Andrea met up with us. They hadn’t seen each other in 35 years, but had a great time catching up. Her friend is a gifted silver, gold and metalsmith artist and was traveling the country teaching classes with her business partner in metal smithing and engraving. She gave mommy a hand-made artists hammer, and mommy says she’ll use it on diddy if he mis-behaves!
So stay tuned—we’ll keep you posted on our adventures as we find wireless access. Until then,
arf!
Dear Roxie, Kizzy and Chance –
You are very talented pups and you must tell your mommy and diddy that we are really enjoying your reports from the road! You are missing some very, very hot weather here and some big-time storms. We’re going up to see Tassie, her family, her 2 dogs, Abbie and Mattie, her 3 bottle-feeding lambs, Kathy, Dorothy and Susan, her 12 chickens, 2 rabbits and before long, a horse. No Happy Tails in July – will start up again in Aug. Have fun popping up in great places!
Love, Liz and Jack.
give tassie and all her critters a big hug!!!
It sounds like everyone is having a most excellent adventure!
most x-cellent! sounds like you had one, too!!!
Wow. Such beautiful photos…and the places you have seen!
Arches is one of my favorite National Parks and I love the southwest. Your pictures make me want to go back to visit 🙂 Looks like you had a good time.
Loved Arches! But Best Friends Animal Sanctuary was the icing on the cake!!!
