Well, our vacay is almost over, and it’s been interesting, to say the least.
Mommy, Diddy and me went on a sailboat that we rented from someone diddy knows. When we got on the boat, mommy did that thing where she purses her lips and doesn’t speak. Diddy tried to reassure her that all would be ok. “I warned you” he said. She didn’t think the 3 of us could live on this boat for 2 weeks. But, an adventure is an adventure no matter what, and this was their 20yr anniversarary trip.
Mommy spent the rest of the day organizing, cleaning and provisioning for the Atlantic crossing to the Abacos, Bahamas.
The next mornining we set sail down the intercoastal waterway (ICW) to the port of St Pierce, FL. Five hours into the trip, sputter, sputter. That’s the sound of a sick boat.
Wishing it away, we continued on, before dropping anchor at dusk. Sunset was beautiful. And I went potty on a little island. I like potty breaks, because we get to take dingy rides!! Next morning, sputter was back. Diddy went to a marina and called a mechanic, who “fixed-it”.
NOT
That afternoon, sputter came back. Diddy was really upset, because our “weather window” was ideal for crossing. See, you have to make a 20hr ocean crossing with no land in sight, your boat better be healthy, and the weather needs to cooperate. There just arean’t service stataions in the middle-of-the-ocean.
To make a long story short, we did not make it to the Bahamas. Mother Ocean said it was not to be, and we respected her wishes. But, we did have 6 days of beautiful saling with lots of dolphins playying beside the boat. We also saw manatees and tons of birds.
Kizzy and Roxy were really happy to see mommy and diddy back.
I love sailing!
What are some of your almost avantures?
UhOh…Glad you made it back safely. How awful it would be to be stranded in the middle of the ocean with no island for you to go potty. Maybe the dolphins could give you a ride???
But it was a nice time while it lasted!
:o)
ooohhh! I wuv the idea of a wild dolphin ride!
Oh! Me is not too sure about the sailing part! Me HAS been in Daddy’s fishing boat. Me leaped out in the middle of the lake and swimmed to shore!
Happy trails!

Boats and dogs are a great combo, not sure about cats, tho!
Thank God you made it back OK. We have never been a sailing trip where something didn’t go wrong….go wrong….go wrong. But it’s worth it. Have never done this, but I have heard that sailing he inland waterway all the way if great (if you have a motor in case).
Mmmm….I am far too jealous that you were somewhere warm! Saw your blog on the PBU site 🙂 Nice to meet you all.
Thank goodness that you didn’t run into too much trouble. Your vacation seems like it was lovely- sounds like a great way to celebrate an anniversary!
Thank you for checking out our blog. We’re going to have to find a dig=fferent, successful trip for our anniversary, methinks!
You look soo happy to be on that boat! And the skies look lovely! Bet your mom really had a nice time, even though she didn’t get the Bahamas. Moms like things like sunrises and sunsets.
And cuddly kids;)
i have always said that i am in my element on water. thanks!
Glad you’re safe! That sunset sure is beautiful as is the dolphin. I try to chase them every time I go to the beach, they’re always so close to shore. My Mom always worries they’ll beach themselves
Dachshund Nola
looks like you’re from tallahassee? Mommy went to grad skool there. Nice to live so close to the beach! Woof!
We like going on our boat too! But…it’s a bit different because it is on a lake….and we can always see the land! The dolphin ride that Amber mentioned sounds like a great idea!! Looks like you all are having so much fun!! Hope the boat gets better!! xoxo Chloe and LadyBug
Looks like it was a lovely trip despite the malfunctions!
