HK and I have been discussing our “next adventure” in life for a few years now. We knew it would involve travel, and moving on, but in what capacity-we weren’t sure.
About 4 years ago we bought a pop-up trailer that we named The Pup-Up, and took her, along with our 3 doggies, across the country and to Canada for 3 months. A year or so later we hauled her up and down the East Coast spanning from South West Florida as far as Baltimore.
We were on a mission to find a new place to hang our hat. Several towns registered with us, but none fit the bill completely. So we continued The Search.
Being lovers of sailing, and certified as captains, we began tossing around the idea of buying a sailboat big enough to cruise to new destinations in lieu of purchasing dirt. After going to boat shows and logging countless hours researching the endless lists of “must-haves” and “wants”, we narrowed it down to a reasonable number of sailboats. I’d say we’ve boarded around 60 boats on the market in a couple of years. We’ve done our homework.
Making major life changes involves an incredible amount of planning and preparation, so during our quest for a new (albeit temporary) location and a boat, we put our primary home in Atlanta on the market. For six months we purged many of our possessions, selling stuff through Craigslist, yard sales, word-of-mouth and countless trips to charitable organizations, all while juggling our time between Atlanta and Florida, where my Mom was battling terminal cancer.
After six months, the house sold. And Mom died. And suddenly, the changes we had worked toward were staring us in the face and I have never felt more lost and unprepared.
After grieving our losses-the home we so painstakingly designed and built and the Mother I had loved and lost-we made a temporary move to our lake cottage in the hopes of moving forward with our dreams.
We’re getting closer. Lots of stuff in the works. The Adventure awaits. Updates will be coming, so please check back soon.
I am looking forward to your next adventure – I live part of my life through you! Tons of love sent to you ~
