Kismet here. I want to give all my doggy friends and their people a great big head’s up about something we just found out the hard way!
West of the Mississippi, there lives a type of weed that can be downright dangerous, even fatal, if not avoided. It is called foxtail, and as pretty and fluffy as it looks, this weed packs a wallup of pain!
Mommy’s not sure where I picked it up, but I know when we were in Utah, Chance rolled in some weeds and ended up with little sharp barbs all over him. Diddy and Mommy had to comb them out of his fur and pull them out with tweezers. Well, I musta gotten one in my paw-pad and didn’t tell them, and while I was in boarding for a week with Roxie while the others were sailing, I got an infection and the big sharp barb dug itself through my foot.
The vet wanted to do surgery, but, hey, I’m no spring chicken, and mommy did not want me to be sedated, so the vet removed the barb and cleaned up my foot, and I had to take icky medicine. But worst of all–i had to wear the Cone Of Shame!!! Roxie and Chance laughed and laughed, but I reminded them both of when they have had to wear them, too!!
I’m better now, but much more cautious of where I go. So be careful, pups, it’s a jungle out there!
Jules— the Happy Tails Sunrise visit Monday won’t be the same without you and Roxie. We miss you and are vicariously living your Great Adventure.
Hello to Diddy and the Pups. Linda
thanks, linda! if you are living our vacay vicariously, you are now cool, sweat-free and not having to use air conditioning!
Poor Kismet. Wishes and love for a quick recovery! Judy
OMG. I am so sorry to hear about the latest mishap. Get well soon!
Luv ya,
the puggies
thanks! soaking in the ocean is helping the healing process!
NOOOO, not the Cone of Shame! Poor Kismet – hope the ocean does the trick.
Get well soon Kizzie! (I think I’ve seen your mommy wearing the cone of shame some nights at Dinner and a Movie!) 😉
that’s so funny i forgot to laugh!
poor pup, I see those things all the time (although not here) I had no idea they were so dangerous. Feebee the rescue mutt here is now afraid of the grass and has taken to pooping inside. I think she must have been bitten by an ant or stepped on a thorn out there. Not sure how to assure her that “too damn bad, get out there and shit where dogs are suppose to shit!”
dang! maybe buy her a home depot indoor/outdoor carpet/ we got one for the pop up- seems dogs use them.
Oh, No! Not the cone of shame! I sure hope you foot is better.
Foxtails can do a lot of damage, at the end you’re lucky it was just the foot. Get well soon (((hugs)))
we had NO IDEA!!!
yes, we were lucky! thanks!
