It’s that time of year again, when folks are dashing to the mall in search of that perfect something to give that special someone. Or maybe you’re looking for a gift for a co-worker, group member of relative. Well, instead of purchasing a token gift that is probably made in China, why not consider making a donation in their name? Here is a list that the pups have helped me compile, including some of my favorite charities.

Best friends Animal Society is my long-time favorite! That is why our family, including the 3 Pups, volunteered there this summer.

The Humane Society of the United States is the nation’s largest animal protection and advocate organization, acting through reform, public awareness, emergency response, sanctuaries and more. A great organization.

World Vision is “a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families, and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice.” Examples of the many ways to donate are by sponsoring a child, donating ducks, chickens, goats, clean water funds, help sexually exploited women and girls or feed hungry families. Prices begin around $10.00 and up.

The ASPCA does what it’s name suggests-American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

The American Humane Association helps to prevent cruelty to animals and humans.

Earthjustice is a “nonprofit public interest law firm dedicated to protecting the magnificent places, natural resources, and wildlife of this earth and to defending the right of all people to a healthy environment. We bring about far-reaching change by enforcing and strengthening environmental laws”

The National Park Foundation raises funds to connect all Americans to their national parks through volunteerism, visitor experience, education and outreach programs. I have a whole new appreciation for the National parks after our 3 month camping experience.

The World Wildlife Fund The organization works to conserve the world’s most important ecosystems for the benefit of both the species and people who live there.

Heifer International helps people become more self-reliant by helping people obtain a sustainable source of food and income. Like World Vision, you can donate a little or a lot for gifts such as honeybees, water buffalos, trees or seeds.

Friends of Animals are helping free animals from cruelty and institutionalized exploitation around the world. They work for primates, marine animals and more.

Of course, you could contribute to any of your local shelters or animal rescue groups, as well.

If you can’t afford a monetary donation this year, consider having a pet food drive at work, school of at home. Rescue groups, shelters and food pantries are in desperate need this year, and always.
